About this outing
Magic is running wild at Historic Scotland sites this October, and plants and trees are sprouting where they shouldn't. On this self-guided family trail you hunt for them around the castle, answer the clues and earn a sticker, picking up the old Scottish stories about each plant's magical powers along the way.
Runs 10 October to 1 November 2026, included in castle admission. Craigmillar Castle is open daily 10am to 4pm. Adult £7.50 online or £8.50 in person; child (7 to 15) £3.50 online or £4 in person; concession £6 online or £6.80 in person. Free for Historic Scotland members. Parking at the castle is very limited.

Good to know
The upper levels are reached by narrow, uneven stone stairs with a rope handrail, and the way into the courtyard is a steep grass slope, so it is hard going with a buggy.
