Holyrood Park & Arthur's Seat
About this outing
A dramatic 650-acre volcanic landscape in the heart of Edinburgh. Arthur's Seat (251m) is the summit of an ancient volcano — the full climb takes about 45 minutes but shorter routes around the base suit young families. St Margaret's Loch and Dunsapie Loch attract swans and ducks.
Free to enter, 24/7. The Queen's Drive road loops the park — partially closed to traffic on certain days (check holyrood.scot). The path around the base via the lochs is flat and pushchair-friendly. The Arthur's Seat summit is steep and rocky — not for young children without experience.
